According to Arshad Jamal, vice president of FPCCI, a seminar on NSW along with group discussion is being organized in last week of current month, which is aimed at providing an opportunity to the members and other stakeholders to share their expert opinions on the subject.
He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan was keen to systemize the port operations in line with international best practices and directed to develop NSW for the ease of doing business.
He said FPCCI through this seminar was providing a platform to discuss port operations, movement of cargo to and from customs stations across the country, modes of transports, terminals operations, clearance of goods from customs and electronic connectivity of all relevant ministries and the departments involved in the clearance of goods from the ports under NSW.
He said that under the vision of PM, NSW is being developed for better coordination between departments for ease of doing business and would omit all repeated exercises, which were now mandatory for the clearance of goods from ports.
Arshad said that this module, if developed in true spirit, would be a great facilitation for the trade and FPCCI always supported such initiatives, which were cost efficient and business friendly.
Moreover he said that FPCCI in order to have better understanding about NSW is also contemplating to arrange a study tour of some developed countries to get practical experience that how does the port community i.e. customs agents, terminal operators, shipping agents, freight forwarders, air cargo agents, customs bonded carriers, etc coordinated each other for the clearance of goods from the port and this study tour would help them to assist concerned authorities through their feedback for evolving workable NSW system.
In addition, this study tour will enlighten the delegation about the process of effectively handling cargos by terminal operators, the concept of parking area for the terminals for the vehicles waiting for taking the delivery of the cleared goods from the port /terminal / off dock terminal and how does the export cargo from the gate in till the loading of container on the vessel is operating, what is the actual procedure on ground, how the multimode transports operate between the developed countries and their borders management, he said.
Replying to a question, Arshad said that letters in this regard were being forwarded to the port authorities of these developed countries in order to arrange interactive sessions with them to understand their risk management system for handling huge volume of cargo with no compromises.
